Hi everyone...We spent the winter of 99/00 in Vancouver, where I'm (Russ) from. We live in Queensland, Australia, Sue's home. We'd gone back to visit family and friends, and when the west coast rains finally got to us, we decided a little getaway to Mexico would be fun. I'd been to Mexico years ago, the Pacific coast, so this would be something different. The price was right, so away we went.
The plan was to spend a couple nights on Isla Mujeres, then a couple in Cancun, then head down the coast to see Cozumel, ruins, etc. Well, surprise! We never made it off the island. Just loved it! It took us a couple nights to settle into just the right hotel, which was the Frances Arlene. We were so fortunate to get one of the two rooms on the roof, with a great view, a little fridge, and a nice couple from Colorado next door. The staff were great, the rooms are very nice and it's not expensive. Didn't take us long to settle into a dreamy routine....
We loved strolling the streets in town, swimming and sunning on Playa Norte, where the white sand is soo cool on your toes, eating pizza on the patio at Rolandi's, scootering down the island to Punta Sur, listening to live bands at night, sitting at the swing-bar at Buho's, discovering great little local cafes, soaking up the cheerful Mexican vibe. Cancun could have been a million miles away...
Sue and I can't wait to return to our special palm tree on the beach. It's a long way from Australia, but we're determined! Even though it's small, I'm sure there's a lot we didn't experience. Overall, a really wonderful time. Any of you that are down there now, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Oh, and by the way, we have some pics that we'll post soon.
