There are 3 main ferry services for getting to Isla Mujeres. They operate from Gran Puerto, Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam. Ultramar also operates services from the hotel zone, but these are usually associated with day trips and are much more expensive than the normal services. Below you will find information on each service as well as schedule and price information. This is as accurate is we know it. If you find out about changes in schedule or pricing before we do, let us know.

If you have pre-arranged round trip transportation to/from the airport, be sure that you pay careful attention to which ferry dock they leave you and double check which dock they intend to pick you up from. I've known several people who didn't pay attention and ended up in the wrong place with their transport waiting in the other location!!

Gran Puerto is the newer of the docks for people ferries. Puerto Juarez is the old tried and true people ferry, but they have reduced their service times and most transfers and taxis are bringing tourists primarily to Ultramar. Punta Sam is further north and where the car ferry arrives and departs from. If you are crossing to Isla with your car, be sure to be there at least an hour early as it often fills up. People can also walk on to the car ferry and many people do it as a means to save a little or if they are not in a hurry. These boats are slow and only operate a few times daily, so missing your boat can be a pain!

Have you set up your airport transferes yet?

Don't pay a fortune to the airport taxis, make your reservation NOW.

UltraMar Service from Gran Puerto

The newest ferry service to Isla Mujeres, Ultramar leaves from Gran Puerto, just two blocks before Puerto Juarez. Actually, that entire area is considered Puerto Juarez, but here we are referring to the actual dock. The new catamarans they operate provide a comfortable ride with individual seats rather than benches. For this service you buy the tickets from the desk as you arrive and show your ticket before even boarding.

The time to Isla is about the same, possibly a little faster, but nothing major. The facilities at Gran Puerto are very comfotable with nice bathrooms, a few shops and an Oxxo (convience store). The price to cross is $70 Pesos each way. Here you can buy a round trip ticket, but it actually costs the same and you need to make sure you don't loose the second half of the ticket. The Ultramar boats offer icey cold AC in the lower level or open air and amazing views on the upper level!

If you need to cross early morning or late night we recommend checking their website to be sure the times have not changed without our knowledge http://www.granpuerto.com.mx/
